Originating across Asia and the Middle East as practical garments for riding and travel, the balloon trouser prioritised mobility and airflow — design shaped by movement. Introduced into Western fashion in the early 20th century through designers such as Paul Poiret, the silhouette marked a shift away from rigid tailoring toward loosened, more adaptive forms.

This silhouette draws from the lineage of balloon trousers, characterised by volume concentrated through the leg and resolved through tapers.

The form widens through the thigh and knee before tapering softly toward the hem, creating a rounded profile that sits away from the body. This curvature is shaped through cut and panels, displacing excess volume.

A secondary front panel overlays the base leg, introducing depth and a slight shift in surface. Angled seams guide the fabric across the body, while selective anchoring allows sections to move independently, creating subtle articulation through wear.

Volume is held at the waist and released through the leg, then drawn back in at the opening, producing a contained, sculptural shape.

Seams remain exposed and directional, reinforcing the construction and guiding the silhouette.
