Radial Detachable Umbrella Skirt

A pleated system constructed as both garment and apparatus.

The Radial Pleat Detachable Cross-Body Umbrella Skirt takes its name from its circular expansion — a full structure that opens from a controlled waist into volume. This geometry traces back to historic skirt engineering, where fullness was distributed through pleating to create movement without excess bulk.

This piece extends that lineage through modular construction. Gathers cascade from the waistband to hem, allowing the fabric to expand and contract with movement. The silhouette holds volume without stiffness, structured at rest, fluid in motion.

A detachable and interchangeable garment system introduces a second layer of construction. Composed of layered panels and tassel extensions, it extends into a cross-body strap that functions as a load-bearing element, drawing weight upward and redistributing the balance of the skirt across the body. 

Worn with the strap engaged, the skirt becomes fragmented and directional. Removed, it returns to a clean, uninterrupted radial form.
