Convertible Snap Hem Trousers

Convertible Snap Hem Trousers

A hybrid trouser constructed at the intersection of industrial workwear and athletic pattern systems.

The base block follows early industrial trousers — straight through the leg, minimal shaping, and cut for movement rather than form. Volume is distributed evenly from hip to hem, allowing the fabric to fall and stack without interruption.

The base form references early 20th century labour trousers — cut with a straight, uninterrupted leg to reduce seam stress and allow ease of movement across repetitive tasks. These garments prioritised durability and efficiency: wide leg openings to clear work boots, minimal shaping to avoid structural weak points, and reinforced areas at points of friction.

The primary intervention sits along the outseam. A full-length snap fastening is integrated from mid-calf to hem, referencing protective overtrousers and industrial layering garments. When closed, the leg reads as a continuous column. When released, the seam opens — shifting the silhouette from contained to flared, introducing movement and ventilation.

An internal elastic cuff sits beneath the snap system, drawn from athletic garment construction. This secondary layer stabilises the trouser when opened, allowing the outer shell to reconfigure without losing function.

Comprised of a mid-weight cotton with a soft, brushed surface — structured enough to hold shape, but responsive to movement. The tone sits between grey and muted taupe, with subtle variation across the folds.

The garment operates as a system of control and release — fixed in structure, adjustable in wear.

Styling notes

Wear fully fastened for a clean, vertical silhouette that emphasises weight and length.

Partially release the snap system to introduce flare and expose the internal cuff — shifting the garment toward a more dynamic, layered form.

Pairs effectively with structured outerwear or lightweight technical layers, allowing the convertible hem to remain the primary point of movement.

Care

Improper care may damage the garment. Please carefully follow the care instructions. New garments may carry a slight fabric odour — this will dissipate after washing.

Please wash before wear. Turn garment inside out before washing and drying.

Hand wash recommended. If machine washing, use a gentle cycle. Do not bleach or use harsh detergents. Do not wring or scrub aggressively. Do not tumble dry.

To prevent fading, wash at temperatures below 40°C. Dry in shade. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
